Actress Felicity Huffman, who was arrested Tuesday on charges of mail fraud in a college bribery scheme, was released late Tuesday afternoon after paying $250,000 in bail. The 56-year-old actress, who is best known for her roles on Desperate Housewives and American Crime, looked distressed as she stood in front of a judge in a Los Angeles court and nodded that she understood the charges against her, according to a Deadline reporter who was present at the time.
Huffman was one of a number of people charged with paying to falsify information or test scores for their children in order to gain entry to elite colleges. Full House actress Lori Loughlin and her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, were also charged. Huffman’s actor husband William H. Macy was mentioned in the indictment but was not charged. He was present at court on Tuesday afternoon, reportedly keeping his head low and only speaking to co-sign the bail.

Huffman is next set to appear in a Boston court on March 29 for a private hearing. Until then, her travel has been limited to the continental United States. If found guilty, Huffman could face up to five years in prison.
Meanwhile, Giannuli remains in custody after being arrested Tuesday morning as well. Loughlin, who was out of town at the time of the arrests, has been charged but not yet taken into custody.
