A federal investigation is underway to uncover the source of the ketamine that actor Matthew Perry had in his possession before his untimely death last year. The investigation could lead to charges against several individuals.

The investigation was sparked by the death of Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the beloved sitcom Friends, who died from the acute effects of ketamine. Drowning, coronary artery disease and the influence of buprenorphine, a synthetic opioid used to treat opioid use disorder, were all listed as contributing factors.

The Los Angeles Police Department has collaborated with the Drug Enforcement Administration as the probe continues.

The coroner’s report shed further light on the circumstances of Perry’s death, as it was revealed that the actor had undergone ketamine infusion therapy to address his struggles with depression and anxiety, with his last treatment just a week and a half before he died. Notably, the coroner found that the levels of ketamine in Perry’s body were unusually high, akin to those used for general anesthesia while in surgical procedures. This discovery has raised questions about the circumstances that surround the acquisition and administration of the drug and led to the ongoing federal investigation.

Despite Perry‘s past openness about his struggles with substance abuse, the medical examiner’s report indicated that the actor had been clean for 19 months before his death. This has only added to the complexity of the case as authorities work to determine the source and potential misuse of the ketamine that ultimately contributed to the beloved actor’s demise.
