FBI Investigating Man Who Opened Emergency Exit Door On Delta Flight Just Before Takeoff

An unidentified man was arrested on Saturday morning after an incident that took place on a Delta Airlines flight from Los Angeles International Airport to Seattle.

The uncooperative passenger allegedly ran to an emergency exit right before take-off and opened it, triggering the activation of the emergency slide. Passengers recalled the incident as having taken place after the plane had pushed back from its departure gate and described the accused passenger as agitated

The flight attendant looked at him and said ‘you need to go back to your seat,’ and he said, ‘what do I do now,’ and opened the door. Despite the flight attendant’s efforts to stop him, he managed to open the door within seconds.

The police and firefighters arrived at the LAX tarmac within minutes and the passenger was detained. Police said that while no arrests have been made, the subject was moved to a local hospital for a mental evaluation. The FBI has been notified.

After the aircraft returned to the gate, passengers were deplaned and moved to another aircraft so that they can continue with their plans.
