Fat Joe turned himself in to prison on Monday to begin his four-month sentence. Fat Joe (aka Joseph Cartagena) pled guilty to charges of tax evasion for 2007 and 2008 in 2012 and was sentenced to four months jail time followed by a year of supervised release and a $15,000 fine, according to TMZ.

The rapper surrendered himself Monday to the Federal Detention Center in Miami. after releasing a mixtape, The Darkside 3, available for free download online.

“I started underground… there’s some guys that wanna kill me because I make songs like “What’s Luv”… I’ve never wanted to be pigeonholed in this industry where I’m just categorized by what kind of music I make,” Fat Joe said in an interview with Fuse Aug. 5.

He continued to say that he makes his Darkside mixtapes for his fans who have supported him since his underground beginnings.

In the interview, Fat Joe also spoke about his impending prison sentence and emphasized that his new accountant was to blame for his legal woes.

“I did everything I possibly can to correct the situation… I paid them back. It wasn’t entirely my fault. I had a new accountant for like the last four years. And then you could see that my accountant that worked for me for the 15 years prior to that always paid my stuff on time, always had it on time,” Fat Joe said.

Before he turned himself over to the authorities on Monday, Fat Joe tweeted a message to his fans, already looking forward to his release in December, telling them he would see them “at Diddys house for new years.”
