Fans React To Rage Against The Machine’s Support For Palestinians

Rage Against the Machine has been using their social media presence to express support for Palestine in the ongoing Gaza conflict, to the dismay of some fans. Twitter users were quick to point out, though, that the band has always made political statements.

In a thread, one user said, “Lol Rage Against the Machine posted a solidarity statement for Palestine on Facebook and some of their fans are upset?? What did you think you were listening to??” Another commented, “Remember when some dude tweeted « i used to be a fan of your music until you started open your mouth and speaking political bs » and tom morello replied this lmaoo.” He included a picture of a tweet where guitarist Tom Morello said, “Scott!! What music of mine were you a fan of that DIDN’T contain “political BS”? I need to know now so I can delete it from the catalog.”

The band, known for their political activism, has made several statements concerning the events in Gaza. Tensions between Palestinian militants and the Israeli army have reached a breaking point which began when Israel attempted to block certain Palestinian gatherings during the month of Ramadan, as well as to evict Arab families from their homes in Jerusalem. More than 1,000 rockets had been fired from Gaza by May 12.

Rage Against the Machine took to Twitter to express their thoughts. The first post read, “The violence and atrocities we are witnessing in Sheikh Jarrah, the Al Aqsa compound and Gaza are a continuation of decades of Israel’s brutal apartheid and violent occupation of Palestine.”

They followed it up with, “We stand with the Palestinian people as they resist this colonial terror in all its forms.” #FreePalestine
