Måneskin bassist Victoria De Angelis suffered a wardrobe malfunction onstage at the August 28 MTV Video Music Awards.

The 22-year-old’s top fell down mid-performance of their hit, “Supermodel,” exposing her breast while she was in the front of the group. MTV immediately took cameras off of the band and instead, chose to show a less-than-interesting view of the room for about thirty seconds.

Fans were not too impressed with the network’s response to the event.

TikTok user @FAYTH ⚡ posted a reaction video and wrote, “WHO WAS DOING THE CAMERA WORK FOR MANESKIN PLAYING THE VMAS? LITERALLY HALF THE SHOTS WEREN’T EVEN OF THEIR PERFORMANCE AND THEY WERE SO WASHED OUT, WTF.”

Twitter user @maryskin_ added, “Justice for Måneskin!! Let’s make nipples free to be seen! A [shirtless]…man with [his] buttocks out is fine, [but] the woman’s breasts are censored! Sh-tty misogynists!”

The “man” referred to by the user is lead singer of the band, Damiano David. Many fans observed that his outfit seemed similarly scandalous to that of his female bandmate’s, but didn’t seem to require the same strict censorship.

Aside from those 30 seconds, the Italian rock band enjoyed a solid night at the award show. They became the first Italian group to take home a Moon Person when they won for their “I Wanna Be Your Slave” music video.

“We didn’t expect to [win],” David said in an interview following that award. “There’s a lot of great, great artists here, so it’s an honor for us, of course.”

They were also nominated for Best New Artist and Best Group this year.

The glam rock group rose to fame after winning the 2021 Eurovision contest with their anthem, “Zitti e buoni.” Following their Eurovision success, Måneskin’s cover of the Four Seasons song “Beggin'” went viral and established them as serious players in pop music.

De Angelis has not yet commented on the wardrobe incident.
