Taylor Swift & Boyfriend Joe Alwyn Hold Hands After 'Cat' Premiere
Fans of Taylor Swift have speculated the meaning behind Swift’s tweet on May 24 praising a cover of her 2017 song “Look What You Made Me Do” as a way of bypassing former record producer Scooter Braun.
Fans believe that Swift’s brother Austin Swift has recreated the song in order to sidestep the music royalty rules in place by Braun. One fan tweeted, “LEGEND BEHAVIOR from taylor swift to use a pseudonym so [scooter] doesn’t profit off her old music or silence her.”
This idea came from the fact that the band Jack Leopards & the Dolphin Club did not have any former tracks before the cover and that producing partner Jack Antonoff was part of recording it. Austin’s Twitter handle also used to be “TheDolphinClub.” Additionally, the cover art of a young boy in a striped dolphin shirt is very similar to a photograph of Austin as a kid.
One fan pointed out the name Nils Sjoberg which is a pseudonym that Swift used when she cowrote “This Is What You Came For” with her ex–boyfriend Calvin Harris was listed in the credits of the cover.
“Nils Sjoberg (T’s songwriting pseudonym) is listed on the cover’s credit with her brother singing it under the fake band Jack Leopards & the Dolphin Club. Using the pseudonym to get around @scooterbraun making a single penny off her work when it streams on Hulu. Queen.”
Last summer, Swift publicly denounced Braun who is also the manager for Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande. In August, Swift said on Good Morning America that her contract with Braun will soon allow her to re-record all of her music. She said, “Next year, I can record albums one through five all over again. I’m very excited about it.”
The “Look What You Made Me Do” cover was featured on Killing Eve on Sunday May 24.
In her tweet Swift said, “VERY STOKED about this cover of lwymmd on @KillingEve by Jack leopards & the dolphin club!!”
