A man who attended a Dead & Company concert has died after he falling from a balcony. The man’s identity remains undisclosed.
The concert took place on Friday night at Citi Field in New York City.
The fan attempted to perform a flip on the balcony. “He attempted a body flip, fell, and landed on the balcony below,” stated a representative for the police. The balcony below was made of concrete, resulting in major injury.
“He was unresponsive and he hit the ground head first. There was no way he survived,” said a driver who witnessed the incident from outside of the stadium, speaking to the New York Daily News. He stated that the man was heavily intoxicated. He also added that the man’s brother was present when he fell. “His brother was with him. He was crying.”
The male fan was then moved to New York-Presbyterian Hospital. He was declared deceased shortly after his arrival.
Harold Kaufman, a spokesperson for the New York Mets baseball team, commented on the tragedy. “Our deepest and heartfelt condolences go out to the attendee’s loved ones,” Kaufman said. The Mets play their games at the same stadium.
Dead & Company began touring on August 16, with their first show taking place in Raleigh, North Carolina. This stop in New York City was one of 31 included on Dead and Company’s tour. The tour will conclude on Halloween as the group performs three nights in a row at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California. Dead & Company is a band made up of Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kruetzmann, all former Grateful Dead members. John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, and Jeff Chimenti also perform with the group.
