The family of professional PGA golfer Grayson Murray confirmed he died by suicide. One day after Murray withdrew from the Charles Schwab challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, Murray passed away on Saturday at age 30.

Murray’s parents, Eric and Terry Murray, released a statement about his death. “We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone. It’s surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves but that we have to acknowledge it to the world. It’s a nightmare.”

Murray is a two-time PGA Tour winner, winning the Barbasol Championship in 2017 at 23 years old. In 2023, Murray earned two wins at the Korn Ferry Tour and Simmons Bank Open. This year, Murray won the Sony Open in Hawaii.

After news of his passing became public, many players at Colonial wore black and red pins, the colors of Murray’s favorite NHL team, the Carolina Hurricanes, to honor Murray.

Murray was previously public about his struggles with anxiety, depression and alcoholism. In January, Murray confessed to drinking during tournament weeks but claimed he had become sober.

“I just thought I was a failure. I always looked at myself as a failure,” Murray said. “You have to have the willingness to keep going. And lo and behold, that’s what I did.”

Murray’s family thanked the PGA Tour and fans for their continued support but asked for privacy during this time. “We have so many questions that have no answers. But one. Was Grayson loved? The answer is yes.”
