Facebook Adds New Emojis To Their ‘Like’ Button Options

Back in October, Facebook announced that they would be changing their “like” button to six different options. Facebook wants to add flair to their simple “like” option. Chris Cox, the chief product officer at Facebook posted this video with the caption, “I’m in Tokyo today to announce the rollout of Reactions in Japan, our sixth country, along with six new Japanese publishing partners for Instant Articles. We’re excited to see how these features get used in Japan, a culture we all learn from in how to communicate visually.”

The six new “Reactions” are “angry,” “sad,” “wow,” “haha,” “yay,” and “love.” Those became the reaction buttons that initially were tested. The company says it ended up rejecting “yay” because “it was not universally understood,” but it is similar to hitting “like.”

Once the “reactions” are live, the user will be able to hold down the “like” button and the new reactions will be available. The reaction emojis are also animated when you scroll over them.

The company hasn’t released exactly when the new feature will be available everyone, but they did say it will be “in the next few weeks.”
