The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the world’s largest arts festival, will embark on it’s 70th year, and will celebrate from Aug. 4 through Aug. 28.
Highlights of the show include a two-week show with the former First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond. “Alex Salmond Unleashed” will run from Aug. 13-27 to sold-out crowds – all 5,250 tickets have been sold. After losing his seat in June’s election, Salmond has revealed that he discuss Donald Trump, and will be accompanied by a different celebrity guest each night.
“Obviously in the show there will be lots about politics but the emphasis will be very much on the lighter side,” he said. “Among the invited guests there is already plenty of excitement and quite a few surprises. I suspect some people might be taken aback at the range of friends whom I invite along.”
Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn is another act that has already sold out for the festival. He is set to appear alongside speaker and comedian Susan Morrison, and will look at “what makes him tick, how he deals with adversity and why our country and its politics needs to be transformed.”
All sorts of acts will be introduced at the Fringe Festival, from student theatre troupes to comedians to musicians, and clearly politicians. “500 Days of Stammer” will be put on, Frankie Boyle will appear, as well as Enkidu Khaled, Robin Ince, and Allan Little. A production of Adam will play, as well as a live version of Whose Line is it Anyway?
Elixir Circus has already performed on Aug. 1 to get the party started days early. Performer Cal Harris posed at Camera Obscura & World of Illusions in Edinburgh to mark the circus’ return to the Fringe.
One not-so-pleasant addition this year is that of bag checks. As part of a new public safety campaign, attendees will have to commit to bag checks.
