EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Girl-Group PsiRyn Shares How They Got Their Start From Kandi Burruss & Nick Cannon
PsiRyn members Jada Denise, Anaya Chayenne and Victoria McQueen discussed their journey as a girl group in their new uInterview.
Grammy-winning singer/songwriter and reality TV star Kandi Burruss was the first to notice the trio’s potential and advocate for the girls. Buress is best known as a member of the R&B female vocal group Xscape and her appearances on The Real Housewives Of Atlanta.
Chayenne explained how PsiRyn (pronounced ‘siren’) came together as a trio. “We all started off as three solo artists,” she told uInterview founder Erik Meers. “We were training at a performing arts company…we got put together to do like, this little song on a compilation album. It’s called Walk Away, it’s the first song we ever put out.”
She continued, “So to promote the song, we started doing some acapella covers on Instagram, and Kandi happened to see it, and she was in contact with Nick Cannon, who had hit her up and was like, ‘You know any girl groups out here? I’m trying to put together a supergroup and make something pop!’ And so she told him about us, she said, ‘They’re not a group, I don’t think so, but let me hit them up and just see what’s up.’”
Of their experience working with Burruss, McQueen shared, “Kandi has been actually incredible and amazing. We have just been learning a lot from her. You know, obviously, she is in iconic girl group Xscape, and we actually just got off-tour with them – so that was truly like a surreal experience. We definitely learned a lot, and we learn a lot definitely having her as a mentor. She just continually teaches us to stick together and to be ourselves and stay true to the group and stay true to one another.”
McQueen added with a laugh, “And she’s also about her money, she’s going to get her money! So, yeah, we learned a lot from her, and we’re excited to see where this journey takes us!”
Asked if the three girls interacted much with Cannon, the trio responded in unison, “Yes!”
Chayenne expanded, “It’s been very fun, you know, everybody’s always cracking jokes and [Cannon’s] always telling us he sees us killing it… and we’re just ready and excited to work!”
PsiRyn’s debut song “Sober” is currently #18 on the Billboard Adult R&B airplay chart.
