In a sit-down conversation with uInterview, Chicago Hounds players Nate Augspurger, Noah Brown and Dylan Fawsitt spoke about the challenges of growing rugby as a sport in the U.S. The documentary series United States of Rugby follows the Chicago Hounds as they vie for the Major League Rugby (MLR) Shield as they compete in their second season. Noting that Rugby has not been a top sport in the US, Augspurger told uInterview founder Erik Meers, “Honestly, we have probably the biggest country in the world in comparison to some of the best rugby countries. Like, New Zealand is a smaller place, I think Wales is like three million people in total and they’re a good international team, so having a really big country that already has a really good foundation with other major sports, I think is what makes it tough. But that’s kind of why you hope you have things like the documentary that comes out because there’s nothing that says we can’t get it to spread and get the American rugby community behind it. It’s just gotta grow and it’s taking its sweet time.” United States of Rugby is now streaming on Roku TV, with new episodes dropping on Fridays at 8:00 p.m..
