EXCLUSIVE: U.S. Olympic Volleyball Player Lindsey Berg Is 'Honored' To Be Named Captain

Lindsey Berg, who will lead the U.S. Olympic Volleyball team to the London 2012 games for the Summer Olympics, is used to relying on her own sense of discipline to stick to her “protein / veggies” diet and try to visualize her game, but she understands the extent to which volleyball is a team endeavor.

“We’re six days a week,” she says of training with her team. “Every morning from about 9-12, we’re a team and that’s with the ball, and after that we do individuals if [we] want to,” Berg exclusively told Uinterview.

Perhaps Berg was an obvious choice to become Captain of the team, being as she has always felt like a natural leader. “I definitely have a different role,” she said. “I am the captain, and a starter as of now. But I’m a leader no matter what on the court, whether I have that title as well. It’s what’s inside of me.”

That doesn’t mean that Berg lets the title of Captain of the U.S. Volleyball Olympic Team go to her head, however. “I don’t know how to not help people, not lead people, but it’s a great honor to be named captain and it’s a great honor to lead this team to a possible gold.”
