Former NFL player Gosdar Cherilus delivered an apology on social media after allegedly urinating on a passenger during a Delta Air Lines flight from Boston to Dublin, Ireland.

The Massachusetts State Police said in a statement that Delta Air Lines Flight 154 had been heading to Dublin from Boston early Sunday when it was diverted and forced to return to Logan International Airport due to “an unruly passenger who urinated on another passenger on board.”

Cherilus reportedly seemed drunk before boarding the plane, and before takeoff, he got into an argument with another passenger about seating arrangements.

Nearly an hour into the flight, he got up and urinated on an elderly woman “for approximately 20 seconds.” He then hit an elderly man with his right hand while he walked back to his seat, the arrest report noted.

Police stated that troopers boarded the aircraft around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday and commanded Cherilus to exit the plane, but “he became irate and uncooperative.” Eventually, the troopers escorted him to the jet bridge and arrested him.

According to data published on FlightAware, Delta Flight 154 left Logan at 12:12 a.m. ET Sunday, over three and half hours after it was set to take off, before taking a U-turn and landing in Boston at 2:33 a.m.

On Monday, a Delta representative stated that other passengers had been placed on another flight to Dublin on August 18. “Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful behavior and will cooperate with law enforcement to that end,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel.”

On August 19, the former NFL player appeared at his arraignment in East Boston District Court. He pleaded not guilty to charges of disorderly conduct, disturbing a flight crew, and resisting arrest.

He also refused to take questions from reporters outside of the courthouse.

On the same day, Cherilus went to X to post a screenshot of a typed apology. “I’d like to address the media reports about me that surfaced today regarding a situation that occurred onboard a flight to Ireland this past weekend,” the ex-NFL player wrote. “The flight was unexpectedly delayed for approximately four hours, and it did not take off until after 12:30 a.m.”

“In preparation for the unexpected overnight flight, I took a sleeping medication that I don’t normally use, which resulted in behavior that is not representative of my character. I would like to apologize to the passengers and flight crew,” he added.
