Most people have a fear of being buried alive – Anthony Martin, however, voluntarily dropped from a plane in a coffin, broke out, and landed on the ground alive.
Escape artist Martin, 47, was handcuffed inside a coffin and dragged out of a plane about 14,500 feet above the ground. Two skydivers helped steady the box, but the rest was his doing: he freed himself of the handcuffs (one attached to his belt, the other to the side of the box) escaped the plummeting coffin, and landed safely in Serena, Ill., on August 6. He had less than a minute to complete the task in full. "You just have to breathe gently. You can't let your emotions get you, you just start making foolish mistakes," Martin said.
Martin deployed his parachute at 6,500 feet. Though it wasn’t his first skydiving escape – he performed a similar trick 25 years ago – he was still, understandably nervous about it and thankful he survived. “Praise God it all went good. It's good to be here. It's good to be alive," Martin said.
Martin has been working as an escape artist for over 40 years, since he first began studying it at age 6.
