Eric Trump claims his family lacked the political experience to pull off the acts of collusion with Russia that critics have accused the Trump family of.
“We weren’t smart enough to collude with Russia,” the former First Son said flat-out in a podcast interview with former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler. “We didn’t know what the hell we were doing. We didn’t know what a delegate was.”
Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into collusion between Russian-linked individuals and representatives from the Trump campaign before he was elected was widely reported and hotly discussed.
His report was submitted in March 2019, and it was released publicly the following month. The investigation identified a large number of contacts between the two parties, but not enough evidence to prove that they conspired to impact the results of the 2016 presidential election.
Trump further illustrated his point by going back to a story from his father Donald Trump‘s 2015 campaign trail when he was helping the Iowa caucuses, which he lost that year. Apparently, Trump approached a staffer at the caucus asked her, “do you know what a caucus is?”
Eric is currently a vice president of the Trump Organization and has stated that he does not see a future in politics for himself. His wife, Lara Trump, is a Fox News contributor and previously considered running for senate in North Carolina, but has decided against it.
