Eric Trump stopped by Hannity on Fox News this week to lash out against the probe by New York Attorney General Letitia James into the Trump Organization, incorrectly claiming that it is unconstitutional for the state’s top prosecutor to file lawsuits against his father, Donald Trump.
James’ probe is investigating whether the Trump Organization and financial companies associated with them fraudulently misrepresented the value of its properties to banks and tax authorities.
The middle Trump child, who is Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization, claimed that James’ suits are an attempt to bury Trump politically ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
This is consistent with the former President’s usual strategy when faced with legal issues: call it a political witch hunt.
He called James “the most unethical prosecutor in the history of the United States” because of previous statements made by James committing to investigate and try to convict the former president. James has maintained that she is seeing through her responsibilities without bias, and simply carrying out the case based on evidence initially provided by testimony from Michael Cohen.
“She ran on the campaign promise of suing my father because she didn’t believe in his political party because she didn’t like us, because the people of Washington, D.C. told her to do that. It violates the Constitution, it’s unethical, it’s wrong,” Trump went on to say.
Eric was questioned for the case in a deposition in October 2020, and subpoenas for Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr to appear for depositions of their own were submitted earlier this month. They have reportedly filed papers attempting to delay their testimonies.
The Trump Organization is also facing a criminal investigation in New York for its financial dealings with lenders such as Deutsche Bank and Ladder Capital. This investigation is examining whether the Organization “inflated” its assets when applying for loans and “deflated” them when paying taxes.
