Enrique Iglesias is facing multiple charges following a traffic stop in Miami, Fla., that occurred back in May.
Iglesias, 40, was pulled over on May 6 going northbound on Interstate 95 in the closed express lanes in a white Cadillac Escalade. Once pulled over, Iglesias allegedly swapped seats with passenger Abel Tabuyo in order to make it look as though he had not been operating the vehicle.
“It was Mr. Iglesias that was the initial driver, yes”, said Lt. Julio Pajon, reported NBC 6 South Florida.
When pressed about why he had switched seats with the singer, Tabuyo said that he did not know, according to a police report. Both Tabuyo and Iglesias were arrested and charged with obstruction without violence. Iglesias, who invoked his Miranda rights, was also charged with driving with a suspended license.
The alleged incident happened just weeks before Iglesias severely injured his hand in Tijuana, Mexico after grabbing at a drone during a concert.
Iglesias and Tabuyo, who entered not guilty pleas, are due back in court July 10.
