Emmys 2022: Fans Lament Snubs Of Shows Like ‘Midnight Mass,’ ‘Stranger Things’ & ‘Reservation Dogs’

There was plenty to be excited about when the 2022 Primetime Emmy nominations were announced yesterday, but not everyone’s favorite show got the recognition fans may think they deserved.

One breakout miniseries whose absence was noted in the Limited or Anthology Series category was Midnight Mass, the latest supernatural horror outing from Mike Flanagan. Curiously, it was not included in the best of the year lineup, which gave nominations to shows like Dopesick, The White Lotus and Pam & Tommy.

The Limited Series category only included five nominated shows, less than the eight shows nominated in both the comedy and drama categories. There certainly wasn’t a lack of great miniseries from the voting period. Under The Banner of Heaven and Scenes from a Marriage also released last year to positive reception but only received 2022 Emmy nominations for the performances of their respective male leads Andrew Garfield and Oscar Isaac.

The mini-series Station Eleven also only got one nomination despite it being very positively received when it came out. Himesh Patel got a supporting actor consideration for his trouble, but nothing else went to the cast or crew of the HBO max dystopian miniseries.

This Is Us aired its sixth and final season this January and got significantly less Emmy love than the hit drama’s prior seasons had garnered, only securing one nomination for Original Music and Lyrics. Sterling K. Brown won the Lead Actor award in 2017 for his portrayal of Randall Pearson.

While Stranger Things 4 received a ton of nominations including technical awards and the Best Drama Series trophy, some fans have complained that none of the cast members were nominated this year. Sadie Sink delivered a standout performance as Max this past season, and all of the actors have really grown into their respective roles and certainly deserve the laurels.

Also in the drama category, the long-running Taylor Sheridan series Yellowstone didn’t see a single nom for its fourth season.

The comedy category also couldn’t let every good show in. Some freshman sitcoms got love yesterday like Abbott Elementary and the first season of Only Murders In The Building. Other acclaimed new comedies like Reservation Dogs and Ghosts, unfortunately, didn’t break through to Emmy voters with their first seasons. Black-ish, the hit ABC family sitcom which has spawned several “ish” spinoff series, also didn’t get any awards fanfare for its final season which finished airing this April.

The Variety Talk series category also stayed very safe and nominated the typical contenders such as The Daily Show and Last Week Tonight. There are there a ton of new and interesting talk shows out such as Ziwe, Desus & Mero and The Amber Ruffin Show.

There will always be more shows that we wish got the recognition they deserve. So make sure you put on a brilliant show that didn’t get nominated this year and deserves the love and attention just as much.

Error happened.
