Emma Watson Defends Her Revealing ‘Vanity Fair’ Photo

Emma Watson has been criticized for her recent photo op and cover story for Vanity Fair, and she has finally spoken up about it.

EMMA WATSON DEFENDS VANITY FAIR PHOTO FROM JOURNALIST

The Harry Potter star appeared on the cover of the March issue, but it is an inside photo that has been the focus of the controversy. In it she appears in a white crocheted bolero jacket with nothing underneath, revealing a lot of cleavage.

The actress was called a hypocrite by British journalist Julia Hartley-Brewer, who didn’t understand that someone can simultaneously be a feminist and pose for a magazine photo. “Emma Watson: Feminism, feminism … gender wage gap … why oh why am I not taken seriously … feminism … oh, and here are my t—s,” she tweeted.

Watson, in response, explained that her critics were confusing what it is to be a feminist. “I really don’t know what my t—s have to do with it,” said the actress. “It just always reveals to me how many misconceptions and what misunderstanding there is about what feminism is. Feminism is about giving women choice. Feminism is not a stick with which to beat other women.

“It’s about freedom, it’s about liberation, it’s about equality.”

Hartley-Brown received almost 100 responses, and most were in support of Watson.
