Emma Watson walked at her graduation from Brown University over the weekend where Denise Morrone, an armed bodyguard, kept a close eye on her.
Watson, who shot to superstardom playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films, has often made a point of discussing the importance of getting an education in her life. After five years in which she bounced from Brown to Oxford and back to Brown again and a number of film projects, Watson received her bachelor's degree in English literature from Brown University.
On Sunday, Watson sat among the other graduating students next to an older woman decked out in a matching cap and robe. The woman, an undercover bodyguard, was spotted without the robe putting her gun, badge and walkie talkie on display.
It’s unknown why Watson was accompanied by the armed woman, and Brown officials have declined to comment on it. Brown spokesman Mark Nickel said he was “not able to help” to Page Six. Watson’s publicist declined to comment as well.
Earlier in the year, Watson reportedly hired Morrone, a former New York Police Department officer, for $90,000 a year to serve as her bodyguard after repeated incidents involving stalkers made her concerned for her safety.
“Emma has had problems with stalkers in the past and, because of her wealth, there is always the threat of kidnap,” a source told the Daily Mail in March. “She pays for her bodyguard out of her own pocket and Denise accompanies her everywhere, even when Emma is out for dinner.”
