Emma Stone paid tribute to Gilda Radner during Saturday Night Live’s 40th anniversary special, SNL 40, by recreating Radner’s famous character, Roseanne Roseannadanna.
Radner, an original Saturday Night Live cast member, died of ovarian cancer in 1989. “Gilda always had a pocketbook filled with candy. That’s all she ate, she loved it. She was loved by many. I think about the loss of Gilda and particularly the loss of John [Belushi] and think, that’s it, you’re never going to find them again, anything like them,” Chevy Chase said of Radner before the anniversary show.
On Sunday, Stone tried her hand at Radner’s classic character for SNL 40’s “Weekend Update,” appearing in Roseanne Roseannadanna’s signature wig and bright red lips.
Stone wasn’t the only one paying tribute to fan favorite characters originated by comedians that have since passed away. Melissa McCarthy also crashed “Weekend Update” with her take on Chris Farley’s Matt Foley.
