Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield, who were reportedly on a break, are now said to have broken up.
Stone, 26, “ended things and moved back to L.A.,” a source told Us Weekly. “It’s finished. It’s not just a break.”
“He’d been in a dark place for months, getting into his role,” another source told the outlet. “He wasn’t being the best partner.”
It was reported earlier this month that Stone and Garfield, 31, had gone on a break following three years of dating. At the time, it was said that the actors’ conflicting schedules were to blame – as well as Garfield’s immersion into his role of a jesuit priest in Martin Scorsese‘s new film Silence, which has been filming in Japan.
“He’s thrown himself in the project to the detriment of all else,” a source told People, speaking of Garfield’s part of Father Sebastiao Rodrigues, who faces persecution upon arriving in Japan to find a mentor. “But it’s too early to say the relationship is over.”
“Emma understands his work anxieties – it’s why she originally pulled out ofCabaret last year and only did it this year – but they’re taking a break from seeing each other,” the source added. “They’re both a slave to their schedules. This time last year they were privately discussing marriage.”
Neither Stone nor Garfield has commented on the alleged split.
