Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield have reportedly decided to officially call their on-and-off relationship quits after four years together.
Stone and Garfield broke up a few months ago, a source told People magazine. “There was no drama, they’ve been apart while working,” the source said. “They still care about each other.”
“They still have love for one another,” the insider added. “They are on good terms with each other and remain close.”
Back in April, it was reported that Stone and Garfield were on a break due to the actors’ conflicting schedules. At the time, Garfield was filming Martin Scorsese‘s Silence on location in Taiwan, and had thrown himself into the part of persecuted Jesuit priest Father Sebastiao Rodrigues.
“He’s thrown himself in the project to the detriment of all else, but it’s too early to say the relationship is over,” a source told People at the time.
“Emma understands his work anxieties – it’s why she originally pulled out of Cabaret last year and only did it this year – but they’re taking a break from seeing each other,” the source added. “They’re both a slave to their schedules. This time last year they were privately discussing marriage.”
Stone, 26, had been busy stateside this year. After wrapping up her run on Broadway in Cabaret, she completed production on her film with Bradley Cooper, Aloha. Leading up to the awards shows, including the Oscars in February, Stone was busy on the talk show circuit to promote Birdman.
“They had been fighting a lot and they hadn’t seen each other. They have both been working but they weren’t getting along,” a source told Us Weekly about the state of Stone and Garfield’s relationship leading up to the break. “[Andrew] is very in his character. He’s lost weight, and he’s in a dark place mentally for his performance and he’s not boyfriend material right now.”
Later in April, it was reported that the two had actually called it quits and that Stone had moved back to Los Angeles from New York, where she’d been living with Garfield. However, over the summer, Stone and Garfield were photographed multiple times together, proving that they’d worked though the difficulties of the relationship – at least temporarily.
Stone, 26, and Garfield, 32, had been linked since meeting on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man in 2011.
