Eminem Sends Cease & Desist Letter To GOP Presidential Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy Over Use Of His Music

Music rights management service BMI sent Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign a letter notifying them that Marshall Mathers, better known as Eminem, has demanded they stop using his songs.

This comes after Ramaswamy used Eminem’s hit song “Lose Yourself” at Iowa’s State Fair in early August, where he performed the Oscar-winning track in front of a crowd. A clip of the performance went viral online.

In a letter sent to Vivek 2024 presidential campaign, BMI attorney Pamela Williams said that any performance of Eminem’s works by Vivek 2024 campaign would be a material breach of the campaign’s agreement with the BMI Music License for Political Entities or Organizations.

Ramaswamy previously agreed with BMI to use a broad range of their works, with the letter noting that Ramaswamy cannot use Eminem songs for his campaign.

Ramaswamy is one of the numerous Republican candidates who’ve been hit by cease-and-desist letters by musicians who object to their work being used. The most notable example is Republican frontrunner Donald Trump, with major musical acts like Neil Young, Rihanna and Queen sending cease-and-desist demanding he stop using their music at numerous events and campaign rallies.

Ramaswamy’s political profile began to rise in July. During the Republican debate, the tech entrepreneur was seen as one of the standouts. He positioned himself as a political outsider, declaring himself the “only person on the stage who isn’t bought and paid for.”

He also vowed to pardon Trump if he was elected, calling him the best president of the 21st century.
