Eminem confronted a home intruder who broke into his home outside of Detroit, MI on April 5, but this isn’t the first time the intruder had tried to track down the rapper.
The suspect, Matthew David Hughes, threw a stone through Eminem’s (born Marshall Mathers) kitchen door at around 4 a.m., setting off security alarms, and made it all the way to the living room before he was “verbally and physically detained by Marshall, while security was alerted,” an Eminem associate told The Detroit Free Press. He had reportedly gotten past the security team at the front of the property.
Hughes had tried to find Eminem at two different houses last June. He had broken into one, which was not owned by Eminem, in Rochester, Michigan, but by the time cops arrived he had already ran off. The homeowner told police that he was knocking on the window “looking for his brother, Marshall.”
The next house he went to, in Oakland Township, Michigan, had actually been previously owned by Eminem in the past, and there he rang the doorbell looking for the rapper. He was later found in the gatehouse on that property by police and arrested. After investigating, police determined he was the same man from the earlier break-in and charged him for breaking and entering and malicious destruction of property. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail, and ordered to pay a $1,400 fine. Hughes, who is homeless, did not pay the fine in time, and so a warrant went out for his arrest.
Following his arrest early last month, he was charged in Macomb County District Court with first-degree home invasion, and malicious destruction of a building. He being is held on a $50,000 bond.
“Security was alerted, came in, took him into custody and nobody got hurt,” Clinton Township Police Capt. Richard Maierle said about the April 5 break-in.
