Emily Blunt Wows At ‘Sicario’ Premiere In NYC

Emily Blunt looked chic on the red carpet at the New York City premiere of Sicario at the Museum of Modern Art on Tuesday.

Emily Blunt’s ‘Sicario’ Premiere Look

Blunt opted to don a soft, textured blue Ulyana Sergeenko Fall 2015 Couture design. She complemented the dress, which featured multi-colored detailing at the hem, with red Paul Andrew sandals. The actress accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

In Sicario, Blunt stars as FBI agent Kate Macer, who is tapped to join a task force that has the dangerous mission of heading to the border area between the U.S. and Mexico at the height of the drug war. Screenwriter Taylor Sheridan had some pressure to change the lead character to a man, but, thankfully for Blunt, Sheridan held out until an investor could get onboard with the female protagonist.

“I was so thrilled because there are so many women in law enforcement, we just don’t make movies about them,” Blunt told People about her role.

Blunt, who can attest to continued sexism in Hollywood, was pleasantly surprised to learn that female FBI agents have the respect of their male colleagues, and face considerably less sexism.

“When I spoke to the four female FBI agents just to get some research on their lifestyle, when I asked them, ‘Do you deal with sexism in you job?’ they all said, ‘Oh, it’s not a problem for me. You just bite back and they’re fine,'” Blunt revealed. “They all had the same sort of response, that it’s not an issue for them. I just loved that, they deal with it, they are very important members of law enforcement, they’re respected. I don’t know, we just don’t see them in cinema much.”

“I think there is maybe a little more sexism in Hollywood,” Blunt added. “I think we like to crunch numbers on all of these things. We like to crunch numbers on how women are gonna be received. I hope this film will contribute to changing that.”

Sicario, directed by Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Enemy), also stars Josh Brolin, Benicia Del Toro, Jon Bernthal and Victor Garber.

Sicario hits theaters Oct. 2.
