Tejano music legend Emilio Navaira has reportedly died of a heart attack. He was 53.
Navaira was found unconscious by family members at his Texas home at 8:20 p.m. Monday night, the New Brunfels Police Department told ABC News. First responders performed life saving measures and transported the singer to Resolute Health Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police believe Navaira died of natural causes. An autopsy is scheduled to confirm his cause of death.
In the 1990s, Navaira and the late singer Selena and La Mafia were credited with bringing Tejano music to the mainstream. Among his best known hits are “Tu Robaste Mi Corazon,” with Selena and the English-language track “It’s Not the End of the World.”
Navaira’s band Rio won Conjunto Album of the Year and Most Promising Band of the Year at the 1990 Tejano Music Awards. Navaira won a Grammy for best Tejano album in 2003.
