Elton John’s heart shaped glasses have been recovered after they were stolen from the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum.
The classic glasses were on display as part of the museum’s “60 Years of Rock ‘n’ Roll” exhibit, and were reported missing on April 21. According to the museum, a thief tampered with the lock on the case containing the priceless glasses, which were on loan from a private owner.
Police were quickly able to identify the thief as Matthew Colvin, 26, a museum visitor whose fingerprints were found at the scene. According to authorities, Colvin returned the glasses and red glasses sleeve and was arrested in Mississippi, where he is currently being held without bail.
“We are grateful to the Memphis Police Department for their swift action, hard work, and expertise in securing the return of the stolen item,” said Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum Executive Director John Doyle.
The glasses have been returned to the museum and are back on display.
