In a dramatic moment at a concert on February 16, pop star Elton John burst into tears after realizing he had to cut his performance short. The 72-year-old singer and songwriter, known for such songs as, “Bennie and the Jets,” and, “Rocket Man,” was performing in Auckland, New Zealand when he required medical attention on stage. Soon after, while attempting to perform the song “Daniel,” John discovered that he had lost his voice 16 songs into a 25 song set. A visibly upset John was helped off stage by a few assistants. The unfortunate mishap occurred a week after John and Bennie Taupin received the Oscar for Best Original Song.

The singer took to his Twitter to apologize and explain his early end to the concert in a series of tweets.
John was diagnosed with walking pneumonia, which caused his voice to give out. He also thanked his fans for coming out to the performance and apologized for being unable to finish the concert.
Despite the setback, the singer is planning on performing the rest of the shows he has planned in New Zealand and Australia. Another concert in Auckland, which was planned for February 18, has been rescheduled for the next day at the behest of the doctors treating John. The pop star is currently on the Farewell, Yellow Brick Road Tour, which John is planning on being his last. The tour started back in 2018 and is not set to be concluded until the end of this year.
