Elton John Boycotting Dolce & Gabbana After Designers Call IVF Children ‘Synthetic,’ State Opposition To Gay Adoptions
Dolce & Gabbana designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana spoke out against gay adoptions and in-vitro fertilization in a recent interview, causing Elton John to lead the way in a call to boycott the fashion house.
Elton John Boycotts Dolce & Gabbana
“We oppose gay adoptions. The only family is the traditional one,” Dolce and Gabbana, who are both openly gay, told Italy’s Panorama magazine. “No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed.”
“I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Uteri [for] rent, semen chosen from a catalog,” Dolce added
In response to the article, Elton John, who has two children via IVF and a surrogate mother with husband David Furnish, took to Instagram to lambaste the designers and call for the boycott of their brand.
“How dare you refer to my beautiful children as ‘synthetic,'” Sir Elton wrote. “And shame on you for wagging your judgmental little fingers at IVF – a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfill their dream of having children.”
“Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions,” the singer-songwriter added. “I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana.”
Since Sir Elton made his Instagram post, a number of celebrities have joined him in boycotting Dolce & Gabbana, including Victoria Beckham, Ryan Murphy, Courtney Love and Ricky Martin.
