Tech billionaire Elon Musk is in the middle of a $44 billion acquisition of Twitter and says that if the deal is completed, he will allow former President Donald Trump back on the platform.
“I think that was a mistake because it alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice,” Musk said at an event on Tuesday.
Trump was permanently banned from Twitter after the January 6, 2021, Capitol breech for violating the platform’s policy against incitement of violence. Since being banned, the former President started his own social media platform, Truth Social, and has said that he would not rejoin Twitter even if it were an option.
“I will say that I don’t own Twitter yet, so this is not a thing that will definitely happen, because what if I don’t own Twitter?” Musk added, emphasizing that the deal is not yet completed.
