Elon Musk is being sued for defamation for comments he made that falsely accused a California man of pretending to be a neo-Nazi.
Ben Brody, 22, filed the suit in Texas on Monday. Brody accused Musk of causing a wave of online harassment against him as a result of posts about a neo-Nazi fight in Oregon in June.
While at an Oregon City pride festival, a brawl broke out between two conservative groups and footage of the event circulated around social media. Users began claiming that one of the men in the videos was a federal agent and eventually misidentified him as Brody. Musk joined in on the conversation, intensifying the attacks against Brody.
According to the court filing, Brody has claimed that Musk’s actions resulted in him and his family being forced out of their home by “a huge number of people” who “believed he was either a neo-Nazi or a provocateur in a ‘psyop’ to commit political terrorism on American soil.”
Brody’s lawyer, Mark Bankston, denounced Musk’s behavior in a post on X on Monday.
“Being defamed by someone as famous as Musk was an utterly terrifying experience, and it has left Ben stunned, disoriented and worried about the consequences on his future,” he wrote.
Musk recently attacked his estranged trans daughter as a “Communist.”
