Elon Musk is staying at a cottage located on the grounds of Donald Trump’s prestigious Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

Bought in 1985 and Trump’s primary residence since 2019, Mar-a-Lago is built on 17 acres of land and spans 62,500 square feet with 126 rooms.

Musk’s cottage is priced at a minimum of $2,000 a night and sits just several hundred feet away from the estate’s main house. Other similar cottages on the property have been used by other members of Trump’s inner circle, such as his Vice President choice JD Vance.

It was reported by The Times that Musk moved into the cottage in early November and watched the election results with Trump among other MAGA supporters. He was accompanied by two out of his 11 children, along with their nannies, and was spotted across the estate, dining with the family, golfing with Trump’s grandchildren and enjoying the sumptuous resort. Musk left the cottage near Christmas and is expected to return in early 2025.

Last week, Trump made a post to TruthSocial “Where are you?” seemingly targeted at Musk and his son XÆ A-12 (nicknamed ‘X’). Trump wrote, “When are you coming to the ‘Center of the Universe’, Mar-a-Lago? Bill Gates asked to come, tonight, we miss you and x! New Year’s Eve is going to be AMAZING!!!”

Political officials and citizens alike are increasingly worried about Musk’s relationship with Trump and the command he will likely exert in the president-elect’s next term, serving as a sort of “shadow president.” With a strong interest in foreign affairs, Musk has participated alongside Trump in conversations with foreign heads of state (such as French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy) been present for personnel meetings and helped to take a bipartisan spending bill in congress.

Trump has also enlisted Musk and fellow billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy to form and oversee a department to monitor government spending. This has led to an elevated fear that Musk’s personal professional agenda will interfere with the economy as he pushes for an alarming cut in federal jobs.

Musk’s net worth has skyrocketed recently; valued at a little over $260 billion at the beginning of last month, he has now reached a net worth of $430 billion. As the second and third-wealthiest billionaires, Jeff Bezos ($250 billion) and Mark Zuckerberg ($219 billion) trail far behind, Musk is the richest person in the world by a landslide.
