Actress Gina Carano has taken legal action against Lucasfilm and Disney for her termination from the hit TV series The Mandalorian three years ago.

Carano, who portrayed the character Cara Dune in the Star Wars franchise, was relieved of her role in February 2021 after she shared social media content that drew comparisons between modern American politics and Nazi Germany.

In response, she has now filed a lawsuit in California federal court that alleges wrongful termination and discrimination. Additionally, Carano seeks reinstatement as Cara Dune in the ongoing legal proceedings, as specified in a complaint.

In a surprising turn of events, Elon Musk has pledged financial support for Carano’s legal battle. Musk publicly declared his intention to assist users of the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), who claim to have faced discrimination due to their posts.

A spokesperson for X announced, “As a sign of X Corp’s commitment to free speech, we’re proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano’s lawsuit, empowering her to seek vindication of her free speech rights on X and the ability to work without bullying, harassment, or discrimination.”

Carano faced severe backlash for her controversial social media activity, which included the suggestion that having different political opinions was akin to being Jewish during the Holocaust. She also mocked individuals who include pronouns in their social media bios, spread misinformation about the Covid-19 pandemic and shared content related to voter fraud.

Lucasfilm responded with a statement that denounced Carano’s posts as “abhorrent and unacceptable” and her agency, UTA, severed ties with her as a client.

Carano recently took to X to issue a lengthy statement that vehemently denied the use of “aggressive language.” She claimed that her words were consistently distorted to portray her as an extremist aligned with the alt-right movement. Carano asserted that she has maintained amicable relationships with her former co-stars from The Mandalorian and that they have shown nothing but care and support towards her.

In her X post, Carano expressed her desire to resume her creative journey and storytelling pursuits, which she considers her greatest passion. She shared her struggle to move forward, burdened by the false narratives and labels imposed on her, allegedly supported and perpetuated by Disney.

Carano expressed gratitude for Musk’s powerful support and eagerly anticipated the opportunity to clear her name.

Musk has repeatedly butted heads with Disney over its decision to pull ads from X after he took over.
