Twitter CEO Elon Musk just dismissed a Twitter employee in a two-word tweet that read “he’s fired.”
The since-deleted tweet was directed at Eric Frohnhoefer, a software developer whose LinkedIn profile says he’d been with the company for over eight years. Frohnhoefer replied to the tweet with a saluting emoji.
It seems the strange firing was effective immediately, as Frohnhoefer tweeted an image of his locked company laptop later that day.

It all began when Musk tweeted about slow render times in certain countries. Frohnhoefer replied, “this is wrong,” directly undermining Musk.
This is just the latest example of a slew of bizarre behavior from Musk.
On Tuesday, Musk tweeted that he was welcoming back two employees he had previously fired. He tweeted, “It’s important to admit when I’m wrong & firing them was truly one of my biggest mistakes.”
Earlier this month, Musk complained about losing revenue as he laid off 50% of Twitter employees.
Musk also had a public spat with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) over his announcement that users would now have to pay $8 per month for verification, a previously free designation offered by Twitter.
When Musk finally took over Twitter in late October, he posted a message to advertisers. He said he acquired Twitter “to try to help humanity, whom I love. And I do so with humility, recognizing that failure in pursuing this goal, despite our best efforts, is a very real possibility.”
Musk’s statement about “humility” and “love” directly opposes his erratic behavior and senseless lay-offs.
He continued, “That said, Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences!”
When Musk is receiving criticism on his own platform, he is prepared to exact revenge. The tech mogul has said he would reinstate the accounts of Donald Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia).
