Ellen DeGeneres announces 'Finding Dory'
Gospel singer Kim Burrell was slated to appear and perform on The Ellen Show alongside Pharrell.
Burrell recently gave a homophobic sermon at her Love & Liberty Fellowship Church in Houston, which she founded in 2010. She reportedly called gay people “perverted” and said that “the perverted homosexual spirit, and the spirit of delusion and confusion, it has deceived many men and women.” She also described various homosexual acts as sinful.
The singer was soon bumped from the show’s lineup. Instead, Pharrell and Janelle Monáe, who both worked on the upcoming film Hidden Figures, will still appear and will presumably speak about Burrell’s absence. Pharrell and Burrell were supposed to sing “I See A Victory” from the film’s soundtrack.
Ellen DeGeneres, who famously came out as gay 20 years ago this year, tweeted that Burrell would not be appearing on her show after footage of the sermon hit the internet.
Pharrell also posted on Instagram saying, “I condemn hate speech of any kind,” though he did not directly reference Burrell.
