Elizabeth Vargas, who checked back into rehab in mid August, will be returning to anchor ABC News’ 20/20 next week.
Vargas announced her imminent return on Twitter Wednesday, writing, “So many thx to everyone for your support! It means so much. I am back to work next week, so happy to come back!”
Back in August, Vargas revealed that she was in an ongoing battle with alcoholism that was threatening both her home and work life. After falling off the wagon on vacation, she was recommitting to her sobriety and would be checking back into rehab to do so.
“As so many other recovering alcoholics know, overcoming the disease can be a long and incredibly difficult process," said Vargas, who checked herself into rehab during a summer vacation. "I feel I have let myself, my co-workers and most importantly my family down and for that I am ashamed and sorry."
Vargas added that she is “committed to battling and addressing this debilitating disease.”
Just days after announcing her plans to check into a treatment facility, news broke that Vargas and her husband, musician Marc Cohen, were heading towards divorce. "Marc and Elizabeth are in divorce proceedings," a sourced had told People "The kids are with him in New York while she seeks treatment."
When Vargas returned from her first stint in rehab back in January of this year, she revealed that it was Cohen’s intervention that led her to seek help. “You have a problem. You’re an alcoholic,” he apparently told her.
