Elizabeth Gilbert, author of best-selling novel Eat Pray Love, has revealed that she is separating from her husband Jose Nunes — in a Facebook post on Friday.
“I am separating from the man whom many of you know as “Felipe” — the man whom I fell in love with at the end of the Eat Pray Love journey,” Gilbert wrote. “He has been my dear companion for over 12 years, and they have been wonderful years.”
“Our split is very amicable. Our reasons are very personal,” the author continued.
Gilbert explained that while she is sharing this news, she wishes for the public to respect her privacy and understand that her personal life at the moment is not just one of her books.
“At this time of transition, I hope you will respect our privacy,” Gilbert said. “In my heart, I know that you will do so, because I trust that you understand how this is a story that I am living — not a story that I am telling.”
Gilbert noted she may be absent from social media during this period of transition.
In Eat Pray Love, Gilbert reflected on the end of her first marriage, her divorce, and her journey to Italy, India and Bali — she met Nunes in Bali.
