Elizabeth Banks has been tapped to play Rita Repulsa in Lionsgate’s Power Rangers movie.
Banks recently signed on to play Rita Repulsa, the ultimate villain in 90s kids series Might Morphin Power Rangers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The alien witch, who wants to ruin Earth, is the Power Rangers’ chief nemesis.
“After 10,000 years, I’m free! It’s time to conquer Earth!!,” Banks tweeted. “Time to play #RitaRepulsa #PowerRangersMovie.”
RJ Cyler, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Naomi Scott and Dacre Montgomery are playing the teen Power Rangers tasked with defeating Banks’ Rita Repulsa.
Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) will direct the Power Rangers film from a script penned by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (The Last Witch Hunter).
In addition to Power Rangers, Banks will soon get to work on World War II drama Rita Hayworth with a Hand Grenade and Pitch Perfect 3, which she’s slated to direct.
