Elisabeth Hasselbeck is under fire again after suggesting that the Black Lives Matter movement should be considered a hate group.
On Fox & Friends Tuesday, Hasselbeck was interviewing conservative Blacksphere executive director Kevin Jackson when she asked, “Why has the Black Lives Matter movement not been classified as a hate group? How much more has to go in this direction before someone actually labels it as such?”
Hasselbeck and her Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade had just shown footage of a Minnesota protest in which Black Lives Matter activists were chanting, “Pigs in a blanket, Fry ’em like bacon.” Though the protestors were otherwise peaceful, their chants were interpreted as being pro-violence against police officers.
Following the segment, Fox & Friends and Hasselbeck in particular were met with a swell of backlash on Twitter. One of the more notable tweeters was Hasselbeck’s former The View co-host Rosie O’Donnell.
Upon realizing the effect her question had on her followers, Hasselbeck took to Twitter to explain that though she posed the inflammatory question, it does not reflect her personal views.
Earlier this year, Hasselbeck courted controversy when she speculated that the late Sandra Bland could have weaponized her cigarette against State Trooper Brian Encinia, possibly justifying his harsh treatment towards her that was captured on video.
“I’m sure, someone has, in the history of this land, used a cigarette against a police officer,” Hasselbeck said on Fox & Friends, referring to Bland, who ended up dying in police custody before she could procure bail for release after her questionable arrest.
