Elisabeth Hasselbeck had a lot to say about Rosie O’Donnell’s rumored return to The View when asked about how she felt at her new home on Fox & Friends.
Throughout O’Donnell’s first short-lived stint on ABC’s The View, she and Hasselbeck had a number of arguments that weren’t always in keeping with the show’s desired level of civility. Though both have claimed in the years since O’Donnell took her leave of The View that their past feud is behind them, Hasselbeck seems to still have a grudge against her former co-host.
“What could ruin a vacation more than to hear news like this?” Hasselbeck asked Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade, referring to the news about O’Donnell. “I know Rosie very well. We worked quite closely. Talk about not securing the border! Here in comes to The View the very woman who spit in the face of our military, spit in the face of her own network, and really in the face of a person who stood by her and had civilized debates for the time that she was there, coming back with a bunch of control ready to regain a seat at the View table.”
While Hasselbeck wasn’t thrilled to hear about O’Donnell’s impending new deal at ABC, she claims to not be surprised about it in the least. In fact, the former Survivor contestant said she could see the writing on the wall during Barbara Walters’ reunion show back in May.
“I’ll go back to the reunion show for [Barbara Walters]. How odd is this, when you have the woman, who again, insinuated that our own troops were terrorists in Iraq at the time, then left the show… to have such ease the day of Barbara’s goodbye show was shocking to me,” Hasselbeck said.
“Rosie herself told me, on-set, while we were mic’ed up, that she produced the reunion show to have everybody together and it was her idea,” the Fox talking head continued. “Now, would you think that the woman who left in the way that she did would be producing Barbara’s goodbye show? Here’s the shocker: It was actually her hello show.”
On Tuesday, it was reported that O’Donnell had officially signed on to return to The View by TMZ. The daytime talk show is reportedly looking for two more women – a Latina and a conservative voice – to join the panel. Abby Huntsman and Margaret Hoover are apparently the frontrunners to fill the conservative slot one held by Hasselbeck.
