An elephant in Botswana was caught drinking water from a toilet at the Elephant Sands Lounge. According to Barcroft TV, there is a water hole nearby, but the water is salty, so some elephants prefer the taste of toilet water.

ELEPHANT CAUGHT DRINKING FROM TOILET

The elephants have the right to stay at the campsite, but some tourist are still shocked to see the elephants when they are washing their hair in the shower. Carina Blofield, who captured the video, does not see the elephants drinking their toilet water as such a bad thing. “The slogan at the campsite is ‘where elephants rule’ and that is definitely the case,” she told Barcroft TV. “It’ s one of the best experiences you can ask for in the wild and as close to nature as you’re ever likely to get.”

Not only do the guest have to share the bathrooms with the elephants, but they also have to wait for the huge animals to pass before they can make it to the restaurants, bathrooms or bars. “From the safety of your tent you can sometimes hear them rumbling outside or even trumpeting – it’s sometimes quite eerie to hear their thumping footsteps just outside but also really cool,” added Blofield.

According to Blofield, some of the elephants on the campsite can get really curious, and are sometimes caught smelling the tourist food or inspecting their vehicles. “If nature is calling in the middle of the night you should make sure you take a flashlight and shine it all around,” she said. “Otherwise you may be sharing your bathroom with an elephant.”
