Imitation Game star Benedict Cumberbatch posed with Eddie Redmayne and his costars at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala.
Cumberbatch and Redmayne spent some time backstage at the 26th annual awards gala at Parker Palm Spring palling around with the Sherlock star’s Imitation Game costars – Downton Abbey‘s Allen Leech, Alex Lawther and Matthew Beard.
In Imitation Game, Leech and Beard play fellow cryptologists hired by the British military to figure out a way to crack the Enigma code and ultimately help end World War II. Lawther, meanwhile, played the schoolboy version of Alan Turing, who Cumberbatch played in adulthood.
The Imitation Game costars were present at the awards ceremony to pick up a trophy for their ensemble performance. “‘I’ve been chosen to speak, which is alarming,” Cumberbatch quipped while accepting the award on behalf of the cast. Cumberbatch also made a joke about costar Keira Knightley missing out on the event because she mistakenly flew to Florida – though later admitted the pregnant actress was merely “under the weather.”
Meanwhile, Redmayne was at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards to pick up the Desert Palm Achievement Award for his portrayal of theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking in the critically-acclaimed Theory of Everything.
