Ed Sheeran & Wife Cherry Seaborn Welcome First Child, Lyla

On a Sept. 1 Instagram post, the “Shape of You“ singer Ed Sheeran and his wife, Cherry Seaborn, announced the birth of their first child, daughter Lyla Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.

Sheeran could barely hold in his excitement at becoming a father, filling the captions of an image of a multicolor blanket to the brim with, “Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you… Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter – Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran. We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here. We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back, Ed x.”

Seaborn met Sheeran as a child during their grade school days in Suffolk County in England. Seaborn later departed the United Kingdom to attend Duke University in North Carolina, where she became an avid hockey player and also majored in Molecular Biology. She later moved to New York City, where she found work as a senior consultant at Deloitte. Seaborn only began a relationship with Sheeran after many years of platonic friendship, at a 2015 Independence Day party hosted by Sheeran’s close friend, Taylor Swift. The two had no idea that they were both at the same party until exchanging texts with one another. From there, they embarked on a relationship that saw Seaborn move back to the United Kingdom to be with Sheeran.

The two regularly attended hockey games together, and Sheeran even dedicated his hit song, “Perfect,” to Seaborn after revealing that they would soon be married. According to Sheeran, Seaborn matches his own enthusiasm at the prospect of starting a family together.
