Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding have gone their separate ways after a brief relationship that was in full swing during the MTV Video Music Awards last month.
Sheeran, 22, and Goulding sat next to each other at the VMAs next to fellow Brit Rita Ora and were spotted holding hands at one point. The handhold sparked rumors, but they were vehemently denied by Goulding. Sheeran is now admitting that the rumors were true.
"I mean, normal people don't hold hands if they're just friends," he said of the PDA at the awards show to Click 98.9. "It was going on. And now it's not.”
Sheeran’s admission is in stark contrast to Goulding’s tweets in August, which she’s since deleted. She’d written at the time, “I love that holding hands with my friends means we're an item. In that case I am in many relationships. Lover not a hater. #whatthef–k."
The “Lego House” singer and Elton John protégé has no hard feelings towards his former flame. “She’s a really cool girl and she’s very talented,” he told the radio station. “She’s had a No. 1 single for three weeks in England now. It’s all going well.”
Goulding has been linked to Shrillex and War Horse actor Jeremy Irvine. Sheeran previously dated Australian Big Brother star Camilla Severi.
