Ed Asner has filed for divorce from his wife Cindy Asner, whom he had reportedly separated from eight years ago.
Asner, best known for playing Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, filed the divorce papers earlier this month, according to TMZ. It’s unclear why Asner is officially filing at this point in time.
The actor and his estranged wife first separated in 2007. By 2009, the two had reached a financial settlement, but never went through the process of filing for divorce. At one point during their separation proceedings, Asner attempted to cut off alimony payments, alleging that Cindy was not making a genuine effort to support herself.
When rumors surrounding the split stopped, it was thought that the couple had potentially reconciled.
Asner, who married Cindy in 1998, was previously married to Nancy Sykes from 1959 to 1988.
Asner has a number of projects in various states of production, including The Home with Brian Cox, Back of Book with Fred Willard and Boonville Redemption.
