Dylann Storm Roof, the suspect in the Emanuel African Methodist Church shooting in downtown Charleston that left nine people dead, may have written a manifesto on a website that features numerous pictures of the alleged gunman.
Roof, 21, appears to have posted a manifesto and dozens of pictures on a website titled The Last Rhodesian, which likely refers to the ruling white minority in Apartheid-era Zimbabwe. The 2,500-word essay explains why the writer detests African American people and other minorities. A zip file on the website, which is now down, contained pictures of Roof posing with a handgun and confederate flags.
“I have no choice. I am not in the position to, alone, go into the ghetto and fight,” the manifesto reads. “I chose Charleston because it is most historic city in my state, and at one time had the highest ratio of blacks to Whites in the country,” the writer said. “We have no skinheads, no real KKK, no one doing anything but talking on the internet. Well someone has to have the bravery to take it to the real world, and I guess that has to be me.”
The website is still under investigations, with authorities looking to confirm whether or not it is legitimate and if it belongs to Roof. A federal law enforcement officer has said, “We are looking into it,” according to ABC News.
Roof was apprehended in North Carolina on Thursday, and was subsequently charged with nine counts of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. It has been alleged that Roof has confessed to the killings and stated that his hope was to start a race war.
