Dylann Storm Roof, the 21-year-old suspect in the Charleston church massacre, was treated to Burger King by Charleston cops following his arrest.
When Roof was arrested last Thursday in Shelby, N.C., hours after he allegedly killed nine people at the historic Emanuel AME church, his main concern was his next meal. After learning that their suspect was hungry, the officers in Shelby purchased him a meal from Burger King.
“He was very quiet, very calm. He didn’t talk,” Shelby Police Chief Jeff Ledford told the Charlotte Observer, noting that the only conversation the officers had with Roof was about food. “He sat down here very quietly. He was not problematic.”
“He did have something to eat while he was there,” Ledford added to Yahoo! News. “And he was secured in cuffs the entire time.”
It is believed that Roof entered the historically black church with a loaded pistol last Wednesday, sitting with a bible study group for nearly an hour before opening fire. Since his arrest, a website that appears to have been created by Roof, titled The Last Rhodesian, features pictures of him posing with a gun and confederate flags in various settings, as well as what might be his manifesto.
Roof was charged Friday with nine counts of murder and a weapons possession charge.
